Step It Up
"The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way." Psalm 37:23
Shoes are very important! Comfort is now the first thing some of us look for in our shoes. However, the cute, high-heeled shoes are the favorite of many of my friends. I love to look at them, but I don't do too well walking in them.
We were always taught as children that our whole appearance could be spoiled by our shoes! If you had a $500 outfit on and had on dirty or scuffed shoes, your appearance wouldn't be good! It didn't matter how expensive your outfit, people were drawn to your feet. It made a big difference to have the "total look" including your feet!
Shoes are important, because our "walk" is important. Our feet take us places and where we walk determines the direction we will go. What we wear on our spiritual feet is important too. How we walk and how our steps are ordered will have an impact on us and those around us.
Let's check our shoe closet:
- High-heeled Stilettos of Self Sufficiency. Our Self-sufficiency or self-reliance is offensive to our Saviour and His power that He demonstrates in our lives.
- Boots of Self Ambition. Is this a shoe we wear with everything? Before we "plow over" another sister in Christ or family member, remember who we represent. Our attitude and spirit should be the same as HIS.
- Platforms of Self-Righteousness. There is nothing good about us, save Him. Sometimes we try to remove the "speck" from another, when we have a huge beam in our own eye. God's Word warns us of this. Humility bears another's burdens and restores in a spirit of gentleness.
- Unassuming Sandals of a Humble Spirit. (They may not look like much on the outside, but they will never wear out!) It is when we lose focus of ourselves and fix our eyes on Him that God does a great work in and through us. May He help us to wear the right spiritual shoes that we may be better servants of His.
"But he giveth more grace. Wherefore the scripture saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble. Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you." James 4:6
"Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men." Philippians 2:4-7
"Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself." Galations 6: 1-3
"For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word." Isaiah 66:3
I know I don't always put on the right pair of shoes but I hope to improve at wearing those shoes well-fitting of a Christian woman - the style that enhances my walk with the Lord.
Join us on April 20-21, 2012 as we work on our "walk" with the Lord! May we all be challenged to "Step Up" our relationship with Him in many areas!
